Gallery: Bay of Fires

The Bay of Fires / larapuna stretches along Tasmania's northeastern coast from Binalong Bay to Eddystone Point, where pristine white sand beaches meet turquoise waters and distinctive orange lichen-covered granite boulders. This striking 50 kilometre coastline, named by Captain Tobias Furneaux in 1773 after observing Aboriginal fires along the shore, now stands as one of Tasmania's most celebrated coastal landscapes.

The southern section from Binalong Bay to The Gardens offers easily accessible beaches, sheltered coves, and dramatic rock formations, while the northern reaches within Mount William / wukalina National Park provide more remote coastal wilderness experiences.

The region transforms dramatically with changing weather and light, from mirror-calm summer dawns to dramatic winter storms, while the historic Eddystone Point lighthouse stands sentinel over this pristine coastline that stretches towards the northern horizon.
