Gallery: Hobart Area

Located in Tasmania's southeast, the Greater Hobart region - known as nipaluna by Tasmanian Aboriginal people - stretches from the Derwent Valley through to the South Arm Peninsula. At its heart stands kunanyi/Mount Wellington at 1,271 metres, creating one of Tasmania's most recognisable landscapes.

The timtumili minanya (Derwent River) flows through the city centre, spanned by the Tasman Bridge, with Hobart's working harbour and historic Salamanca Place below. This region is known for its excellent vantage points to capture the Southern Lights (Aurora Australis), particularly from kunanyi and South Arm.

Key features include the heritage-listed Cascade Brewery, Australia's oldest operating brewery, the colonial architecture of Battery Point, and the historic Richmond Bridge in the Coal River Valley. The combination of mountain, river and coastal landscapes makes this region one of Tasmania's most diverse areas for landscape photography.
