Gallery: Tasman Peninsula
The Tasman Peninsula (turrakana), connected to mainland Tasmania by the narrow Eaglehawk Neck isthmus, lies 75 minutes southeast of Hobart. The peninsula is renowned for its dramatic dolerite cliffs rising over 300 metres from the Southern Ocean, featuring the iconic formations of Cape Pillar, Cape Hauy, and Cape Raoul.
The landscape showcases unique geological formations including the Tessellated Pavement, Tasman Arch, and Devil's Kitchen, alongside pristine beaches like Fortescue Bay. The Three Capes Track winds through this dramatic coastline, while Port Arthur Historic Site, once Tasmania's largest convict settlement, serves as the region's cultural heart.
The peninsula's diverse environments span coastal heathland and wet eucalypt forests, offering abundant wildlife viewing and some of Tasmania's clearest dark skies.
