Richea scoparia (mountain candleheath) ignites the alpine plateau with its vibrant orange-red flower spikes, framing the iconic profile of Barn Bluff at sunset. This remarkable alpine plant, endemic to Tasmania, produces its spectacular display by dramatically shedding its flower caps to reveal the bright blooms beneath. Part of Tasmania's ancient Gondwanan heritage, these hardy heath plants can grow up to two metres tall, creating a stunning foreground to the mountain wilderness throughout early summer.
